The emerald ash borer is a small, beautiful beetle native to Eastern Asia that has become an extremely destructive invasive pest in North America. It is blamed for killing 50-100 million ash trees in the US and Canada since it's accidental introduction in the 1990s. It was recently reported in New York state for the first time.
