The Zitter laboratory and field programs (research and extension) conducts studies on the pathogens that cause diseases of fresh market vegetables grown in upstate New York, with emphasis on diseases of potato, tomato and cucurbits. Laboratory, greenhouse and growth chamber studies address the biology and etiology of diverse plant pathogens (bacterial, fungal, oomycetes and viral). The field program addresses the integrated management of diverse pathogens, utilizing practices that include cultural, genetic, chemical and biological to mitigate disease development.
