Welcome to the Collmer lab!

Currently I work full time as a Professor of Biology at Wells College (Aurora, NY) during the academic year. During the summer (at Cornell) and throughout the year I work as a collaborator with the Pseudomonas syringe genome projects (A. Collmer, P.I.). I am one of the co-PIs of a current NSF/USDA grant (see the PAMGO project under Research, below) working to develop new terms for the Gene Ontology (GO) that describe processes involved in microbial-host interactions. These terms are being used for annotating (describing) genes in microbes that play essential roles in pathogenesis and other forms of symbiosis with plant and animal hosts.
At Wells, I teach courses and also work with undergraduates on various thesis projects involving Drosophila melanogaster (presently) or Nasonia vitripennis (in the past)---on courtship and mating behavior, on variability to alcohol tolerance present in wild populations, and, currently, on effects of alcohol consumption on circadian rhythm. I hope to soon have Wells undergraduates involved in annotation projects using the newly developed Gene Ontology terms.
