Getting to Cornell (Ithaca, New York) by Air
If possible, J.F. Kennedy Airport and Newark Airport should be avoided either as a point of entry or en route to Ithaca, New York. Only US Air provides service to Ithaca. In order to make your trip to Ithaca more convenient, we suggest that you ask your travel agent to make reservations that allow you to enter the United States via one of the following cities: New York City - LaGuardia Airport; Boston, Massachusetts; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Detroit, Michigan; Chicago, Illinois; Cincinnati, Ohio. There is currently no service to Ithaca from J.F. Kennedy or Newark Airports. If you arrive in either of these airports you must transfer to LaGuardia Airport (New York City) in order to reach Ithaca, by air.

Getting to Ithaca via Syracuse, New York by Air: It is possible to fly into Syracuse, New York from J.F. Kennedy Airport in N Y City and other U.S. cities. Syracuse is located approximately 60 miles (95 kilometers) north of Ithaca. Ground transportation (limousine service) from Syracuse to Ithaca is available at Hancock Airport (Syracuse, NY). The cost is about $40.00 /person. Reservations:1-800-273-9197 (free of charge if calling within the US) or (607) 233-3030.

Getting to Cornell (Ithaca, New York) by Bus
If you should arrive in New York City (J.F. Kennedy or LaGuardia Airports) or New Jersey (Newark Airport) and you wish to travel to Ithaca by bus, you will need transportation from the airport to the New York City Port Authority (Forty-first Street and Eighth Avenue). It will take approximately 5 hours to reach Ithaca by bus. Both "Greyhound" and "Short Line" Bus Companies have service to the Cornell campus and Ithaca. Reservations are not required.

Getting to Campus: To reach the Cornell campus or your place of residence, you may use either the Ithaca Airline Limousine (from the airport) or a taxicab (from bus station and airport). The cost for this service is approximately $8.00 per person. Rates may vary for two or more persons.

Getting to Cornell University from New York City Area by Car
Use local roads to I-87.
Go North on I-87 (Portions toll) to the Tappan Zee Bridge.
Cross the Tappan Zee Bridge (Portions toll) and continue North on I-87.
Go North on I-87 (Portions toll) to State Rte 17 at Harriman, NY.
Go West on State Rte 17 for 111 miles to I-81.
Go North on I-81 to Exit 8 for Whitney Point, NY.
Go West on State Rte 79 for 35 miles to Ithaca, NY.
Once in Ithaca, there will be signs directing you to campus. Use these in combination with the directions below to find Cornell.

Rte 79 will bring you into Ithaca on State Street.
Make a right turn off of State at Mitchell Street. (Rte 366)
Follow Mitchell up the hill and left to Ithaca Road.
Follow Ithaca Road to the intersection of Hoy Road and turn left onto campus.
Please stop at the Visitor and Parking Information Booth on your right if you are arriving between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The attendant will be pleased to provide directions to your on-campus destination, a campus and area map, and a Visitor Parking Permit. Visitor permits are required Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A four-hour Visitor Permit is available for $5.00; an all-day permit is available for $8.00.
